Tip: In Latin America you will often hear boleto instead of billete for "ticket", and equipaje de mano is universally understood for "carry-on luggage."

When going through airport security, you may hear or need these phrases:

• Por favor, saque los líquidos y los aparatos electrónicos de su bolsa. — Please take out the liquids and electronic devices from your bag.
• Quítese el cinturón y los zapatos. — Take off your belt and shoes.
• Pase por el arco de seguridad. — Walk through the security scanner.

Announcements You Might Hear

Here are common airport announcements in Spanish:

• "Última llamada para el vuelo IB3456 con destino a Buenos Aires. Diríjanse a la puerta C7." — Last call for flight IB3456 to Buenos Aires. Please proceed to gate C7.
• "El vuelo AV920 con destino a Bogotá tiene un retraso de cuarenta y cinco minutos." — Flight AV920 to Bogota is delayed by forty-five minutes.
• "Se ruega a los pasajeros que mantengan su equipaje vigilado en todo momento." — Passengers are asked to keep their luggage attended at all times.

Quick Grammar: Preguntas con "¿Dónde...?"

To ask "Where is...?" in Spanish, use ¿Dónde está...? for a specific place:

• ¿Dónde está la puerta B12? — Where is gate B12?
• ¿Dónde está la sala VIP? — Where is the VIP lounge?
• ¿Dónde están los baños? — Where are the toilets?

Notice that está changes to están when the noun is plural.
